Clinical Governance & Prescribing Policy

This policy outlines the clinical governance framework under which MedCannabis Cure UK operates, ensuring patient safety, regulatory compliance, and accountable prescribing practice at every stage of care.

1. Overview

Medcann Pharma Ltd (GPhC Premises Registration No. 9013239) operates under the clinical leadership of our Superintendent Pharmacist, Jay Vekaria (GPhC No. 2083802), who holds overall responsibility for the safe and legal supply of medicines through our service.

2. Prescribing Standards

All prescribing of cannabis-based medicinal products follows guidance issued by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the relevant royal colleges. Cannabis-based medicinal products are considered only where licensed treatment options have been tried and have not provided adequate symptom control, in line with UK prescribing guidelines.

3. Clinician Registration & Oversight

All prescribing decisions are made by doctors holding specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC), in accordance with Home Office and MHRA requirements for prescribing Schedule 2 controlled drugs. Clinicians exercise independent clinical judgement and are professionally accountable to the GMC for their prescribing decisions.

4. Our Assessment Process

Every patient undergoes an individual clinical assessment, including review of medical history, previous treatments, and current medication, before any prescribing decision is made. No prescription is issued automatically or without a documented clinical assessment.

5. Pharmacy Oversight

Prescriptions are dispensed exclusively through pharmacies registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). Dispensing pharmacies conduct their own clinical checks, including verification of prescriber registration and medication safety checks, before dispensing.

6. Audit and Review

We conduct regular internal audits of prescribing patterns, patient outcomes, and clinical documentation to ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory standards and to identify opportunities for improvement in patient care.

Concerns about a specific clinician’s registration or conduct can also be raised directly with the General Medical Council, and concerns about pharmacy practice can be raised with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
